Carlos Mejía Godoy

Singer-songwriter, humorist and musicologist of Nicaragua. Carlos Mejia has composed and recorded dozens of songs using a mixture folks styles from the Nicaraguan countryside, and social themes which relate to the poor, injustice, and rural life. Mejia composed the Misa Campesina Nicaraguense, a liturgical mass which was banned from use in churches by Pope John Paul II, for its allusions to Liberation Theology themes. Often accompanied by the group Los de Palacaguina, whose name refers to Cristo de Palacaguina, a country-gospel song composed by Mejia.
